Get More Facebook Likes and Twitter Followers

This month I signed up and watched Facebook’s Marketing Bootcamp, where their staff explains how to use the marketing tools effectively and understand them clearly. In this week’s post I’m sharing some information to help you reach more people on Facebook and Twitter.

Social Media’s posting best practices are:

  • Keep it human
  • Be prompt and relevant
  • Share industry news and exclusive content
  • Encourage participation & engage contacts
  • Reward your contacts with offers
  • Schedule regular posting time

These are the guidelines for posting quality content on your social profiles. After posting according to the above formula the next step is to use your communications in your marketing. Facebook has created easy marketing tools to convert your fans’ interactions into ads.

Facebook
Facebook has four ad formats but the one I am highlighting today is page post ads. There are six types of page post ads:

  • Status Updates
  • Links
  • Events
  • Questions
  • Photos
  • Videos

Using your page posts as Facebook Ads is a convenient way to advertise. You can aim the ad according to education, interests (music, TV shows, hobbies, political views, etc.), workplace, gender & age groups and location.

As Facebook ads efficiently help you to identify and be visible to specific demographics that tend to use your products and services, you can also reach your fan’s friends specifically with sponsored stories. Sponsored stories also has six types, which are page likes, page post likes, check-ins, apps used, apps shared and domain likes. After you select the type of sponsored ad you want to use your customer’s interactions on your page will post in their newsfeeds and in the right-hand column of their friend’s pages so they can see what their friend’s like and use. The right-hand column is similar to a backup plan. If your fans’ contacts are not on Facebook when they ‘like’ your page or your website and therefore miss the newsfeed posts, they can still see it in the right-hand column when they login to Facebook. If your goal is to get more people to your website add the social ‘like’ plugin and when a person likes your website, that interaction will become a sponsored story in their newsfeed and on their friend’s page in the right-hand column (as long as you have selected ‘domain sponsored stories’ for your ad campaign). The benefits of sponsored stories are that

  • they have a viral effect
  • they enable you to receive direct exposure to the friend’s of people who like your page and
  • you choose the sponsored story type that meets your business goals.

Twitter

Now, as I write about Twitter I do realize that there are many tools out there to use to assist you in your social networking and that you probably already have a TweetDeck, Hootsuite or SocialOomph account but these two are also worth considering.

Timely is useful because its goal is to post your scheduled tweets when it will reach the largest amount of your audience. This software analyzes the success of your previous posts then calculates when it’s best to post your tweets. As your following grows timely adjusts the times it posts your schedule tweets to reach the largest group of your following while continuing to attract more followers.

Another tool I recommend you consider is Twiends. Twiends is software that helps you grow your Twitter contacts and connect with people who share your interests. I like Twiends because it has a standard of how to interact on Twitter and it’s about quality connections and not just numbers. It is also a good resource to learn about other Twitter applications.
